Synopsis: During the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the death of the famous Brazilian writer Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis, Goulart was present at the discussions and symposiums held at the Brazilian Endowment for the Arts, in New York. By interviewing experts on Machadian works, like Ambassador Sérgio Paulo Rouanet, Professor Flávio Loureiro Chaves, Professor Gregory Rabassa, filmmaker Nelson Pereira dos Santos, among others, Goulart brings to the public some of the conclusions reached on Machado de Assis, a poor person of mixed race, born in a slavery society, who went on to become the master of Brazilian literature.

Nova Iorque
Category: documentary
(Color-NTSC / Brazil and USA)
Synopsis: Nova Iorque is a Brazilian town in the state of Maranhão, with almost five thousand inhabitants, established around 1886. It is located on the Paraíba River, which divides the states of Maranhão and Piauí. Goulart's new documentary portrays the history of the town, as well as its people, customs, traditions and culture. Without any pretensions of comparing Nova Iorque to the American city of New York – they only have their charming names in common – Goulart gets deeply involved in the lives of the Brazilian New Yorkers to reveal the true identity of the town, which has always been denigrated by the Brazilian media.

Little Brazil
Category: documentary
(Color-NTSC / USA)
Synopsis: Located on West 46th Street, between 5th Avenue and Broadway, Little Brazil Street is an almost hidden bit of Brazil in New York City, where only the discerning eye catches the green-and-yellow colors of Brazil's flag, marking the profusion of tourist stores, barber shops, hairdressers, hotels and many restaurants that cater to the tastes of Brazilians in New York. Little Brazil, the first film shot by Goulart in HDV, portrays the lives of some Brazilians who have made history in New York. These are simple people who were able, or perhaps not, to make their American dream come true, but who have something in common: making their living on Little Brazil Street.
